Navajo

Proficiency: Beginner (A1)

During my time on the Navajo reservation in Steamboat, AZ, I developed a deep respect and admiration for the Navajo people and their rich cultural heritage. Although my proficiency in the Navajo language is basic, my experiences and dedication to serving the community have given me unique insights and a strong connection to their traditions and way of life. For four months, I immersed myself in their culture, participating in various cultural rituals and embracing their way of life wholeheartedly.

I had the privilege of being a missionary to the Navajo people, sharing spiritual insights while learning from their profound wisdom. During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, I organized several relief projects to provide much-needed support to the community. Additionally, I took on the responsibility of organizing funerals for those who passed away, ensuring that their cultural practices were honored and respected.

These experiences have enriched my understanding of the Navajo culture and strengthened my commitment to serving and uplifting others. While I am not fluent in Navajo, my time on the reservation has left an indelible mark on me, and I am honored to have been a part of such a resilient and vibrant community while learning the basics of their language.
